Over the breakfast that Nat and Ruth cooked, we shared our observations and experiences with other cultures in Baltimore so far. Then we drove to Our Daily Bread, an organization that provides meals for people who need food. We served food and drink at tables and cleaned tables from 9:00-1:00. The people in charge were very organized and empowered the volunteers to do their work well. We enjoyed meeting and working beside the experienced volunteers who do this regularly.

Back at the rectory by early afternoon, we met Lavern Eberly who took us across the lawn to a newly-acquired school building. He told us the backstory and vision for this property then showed us where we’d work. Our assignment was to tear up the layers of the old carpet in classrooms.
The carpet had several layers that had adhered to the hardwood underneath. It took lots of effort of pulling and scraping to remove the layers.

At 4:30, we met Darrell Hershberger at Hampden Christian School where he is administrator. He gave us a great tour of the building and answered our questions.

The Michael and Mary Lois Petersheim family graciously invited us for supper. We enjoyed the food with plenty of conversation and music throughout!

Before settling in for the night, we were introduced to The Charmery ice cream shop on The Avenue. It was most delightful!
